BBMP elections: Meat is the new carrot for voters
Bangalore: It seems there is no stopping attempts by the candidates contesting for the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike council to lure voters.

Cash, gold jewellery, liquor and money aren’t all that is pouring into the pockets of the electorate. The candidates are also aiming for the kitchens of the voters, attracting them with a variety of meat. ‘You ask, we will supply’ is the attitude. But elections observers and police are not looking the other way and have not spared them.
At Bileshivale in Kothanur police station limits the voters had a surprise awaiting them when some of the candidates’ agents supplied mutton and chicken. Police under the prying eyes of election observers caught these agents redhanded on Friday evening.
In another incident, Sanjaynagar police on a tip-off caught hold some persons carrying 12 kg mutton which they were taking to the homes of the voters in the area. “We are asked by the State Election Commission (SEC) not to spare strangers and outsiders in the wards. There were always instances of voters being asked to support candidates who supplied gifts like gold jewellery, silver articles and money. This is the first time that we are seeing candidates supplying food like meat,” a police officer said.
Subramanyanagar police, on a complaint given by former mayor Huchappa, have seized 150 silver coins from a house. The occupants of the house could not give satisfying answers to the questions posed by the police, who took the silver coins and registered a case.
In Yelahanka New Town, police seized 14 bottles of whisky which was being transported on motorcycles, while the Yelahanka police seized 96 bottles in one case and another three cases of whisky bottles.
In JC Nagar too police have seized whisky and beer a ban on liquor supply from Friday.
Cases have been registered against one wine shop each in Basavanagudi, KR Puram and Ramamurthynagar police station limits after the shops were found selling liquor beyond the permitted time on Friday.
In Pulakeshinagar and Mahadevapura, police seized sarees that were kept for distribution among the women voters. Police seized Rs 4.2 lakh found with a candidate’s agent in Rajarajeshwarinagar.
